The industry has made its journey from 1984 with the intention of providing superior quality rice at a reasonable price. Our strong management commitment and trust has made this industry to successfully move into modernization of rice mill to meet our current demand.
In our day to day activities, we are following the principles and guidelines given by our founder while we are dealing with our associates, vendors and especially our customers. Our rich heritage reflects in all the aspects of our business.
HISTORY
It is a successful story of an individual, who put all his efforts for the growth of this rice industry for years since 1984. This story is a link to the past and a bridge to the future. Though it is a long journey, it looks forward with hope and glory to scale greater.
1984
We had started as a small rice trading business at Pondicherry to bring the best variety of rice to the people of India and to differentiate the rice from other varieties of rice available in the market.
1985–1986
It was all outsourced until a point when they realized the importance of maintaining consistency in the high quality rice they wanted to bring the people. This was the time, our small rice trading business took a big step by taking a rice mill for lease at Cuddalore, 22km away from Pondicherry.
1987
After gaining confidence in managing rice processing unit, we took the initiative to undertake two rice industries for lease in Pondicherry.
1991–1996
By this time, this small trading business grew even bigger, and it was no more a small business. This was the time when this business got converted into a big enterprise. We set up our own rice plant in Pondicherry, India. This new venture took them a strong foothold in the industry forming high opinions about our rice–BNK, the name that meant the best.
1997
In the year 1997, the company established its second rice processing plant in Abishegapakkam, a place at the outskirts of Pondicherry and named it BNK Modern Rice Mill (P) Ltd (Unit 2). Its product have better foothold, not only in the local market, but also in Kerala State.
1998
Around this time, the company acquired another rice processing plant at Pudukkadai Village, Cuddalore District, Tamil Nadu to fulfill the needs of people with different varieties of rice
1999
Indian Government has Certified Unit 1 as the first 100% Export Oriented Unit for non Basmati rice in India.
2005
In the year 2005, the company established its third rice processing plant in Abishegapakkam, a place at the outskirts of Pondicherry (Unit 3). Its product is well marketed not only in India, but also in Gulf
2007
Unit 2 was updated with an imported technology to meet the International standards with 100% automated manufacturing facility for processing Sona Masoori Rice for local markets and for exports.
2009
By the middle of this period, the company enhanced the production capacity of Unit 1 from 3 mt/hr to 8 mt/hr. And a set up of 8 TPH Buhler Germany 100% automated fully integrated rice milling. Besides this, our company set up parboiling, processing & packaging in unit 1.
The company started a 0.500 MW power generation plant in Pondicherry.
The company turned eligible for carbon credits, and this is the first CDM project in the state.
Unit-I has bagged ” First Prize” of the Prestigious “National Energy Conservation Award-2008from the State Government.
Malaysian university conferred an award to our Founder and Chairman, Mr. B.Navakumar, for his excellent performance in Business Management.
2010
As a scheme of welfare measure to our employees, management constructed three multi storeyed building provided with all facilities for their comfortable stay with their families with sq.ft of 14,000.
Unit 1 was awarded prestigious Energy saving conservation for the year 2009 from the State Government, consecutively for the second year.
The Company registered a new brand for Domestic markets and Export market
2011
In recognition for his exemplary contribution in the field of Agricultural business, University of Popolare, Italy, had conferred Doctorate to Mr.B.Navakumar.
During the month of December, on account of Thane cyclone (180 km/hr), our industry was affected very badly, and we put great efforts to restore the normal condition with a span of six months.
2012
In 2012, the Government of India awarded Unit 1 with the recognition of “EXPORT HOUSE “ for its increasing export success.
